Thunderbitch – LP

Thunderbitch – LP

Alabama Shakes front woman Brittany Howard, has an alter ego and her name is Thunderbitch! They play down and dirty Rock and Roll. Fun, dirty, loud like it’s supposed to be. Side one is all winner no filler. The band bio on their website says it better than I ever could; ” Thunderbitch. Rock ‘n’ Roll. The end.”

Cool embossed cover all black.

I ordered this record directly from the band website months cause I always try to do that if they offer it up, I figure it’s cooler somehow or at least possibly cooler coming right from the band. I know most sell through a third party but hey, it’s what I do. About a month went by and finally I got a vinyl looking package. I opened it up to find a Beagle dog calander inside. WTF? The tracking number matched the online order. I contacted them and they said ‘yep that was us, sorry, we’ll get your record right out” with no explanation of WTF?. Of course I saw it as oppurtunity to ‘get’ some swag or something for sending me a fucking dog calander but they didn’t seem to give a shit only to say they would give me a discount on my next order if I reminded them. Lol. Fuckers. Bad third party seller. Thunderbitch, if you ever see this take note.

Hollywood Vampires – LP

Hollywood Vampires – LP

Not a big fan of super groups but this one is a little different than most, in that they actually sound good and original. Though this is mostly a covers record, the covers themselves are done right with just the right amount of homage given yet with a sound purely ‘Vampirish’. Whole lotta love is a great example. Great guitars and vocals give it a fresh yet classic feel. Side two starts with the classic written by Randy California (cool story) of Spirit. Next up is a medley of Five to one/Break on through with Alice and Johnny Depp sounding great on the words and with Robby Krieger as guest. Other standouts are Schools Out/Another brick in the wall, Jeepster and My dead drunk friends. Come and Get It is cool too with Paul’s distinct voice rounding it out. Actually the whole record is good. Look forward to their follow up.   The guest list on this first one reads like a who’s who in rock with Perry Ferrel, Robby Krieger, Brian Johnson, Joe Walsh, Paul McCartney, Slash, Joe Perry,  Dave Grohl, and even has Kip Winger playing bass on a track lol. Cool packaging, double gatefold, 180 gram vinyl.

The bands name comes from the legendary LA drinking club with the same moniker.

Pictures straight/Gut crooked

I got all the photos rotated straight (I think). They are straight on my iPad so that’s good enough for me…..even though, my brain doesn’t work like that. If they aren’t right on a pc it will drive me nuts till I figure the glitch out. But, for now I’m happy with it. My gut though has felt better days. Just now, I finally got some relief from a gut that hurts so no sad gut pain story tonight. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to my first ever yoga lesson that will hopefully make my morning pain and stiffness better. I want tomorrow to be a good music day. Blast some shit out of this house both inside and out. I am going to try the ‘all zone’ feature on the new amp which will utilize 13 speakers at once and blast everyone in a 2 block radius some motherfuckin punk rock. I think some US Bombs, some Hunns, some Bad Brains, Slayer, and maybe some Circle Jerks would kick it off good. Sunday I’m gonna take my honey out for a little day trip iPod relaxation and love.

Black Flag – Who’s got the 10 1/2 inch? – Live LP

Black Flag – Who’s got the 10 1/2 inch? – Live LP

My favorite live album by far, this was recorded “on a starry night in Portland on August 23rf, 1985.”

This is punk rock in every sense of the word. The music and Henry’s volatile voice rage. The songs are perfectly played with on the spot improvising that are pure punk. Of course, the question, the album title, is the apex of the set during Slip it in and Gimme Gimme Gimme which is another favorite song on here, My War is awesome, Bastard in love, oh hell the whole album kicks ass! I wore this cassette out back in the day. Have it on cd too.

Other great snippets; ” Do you believe in the hereafter? Then you now know what I’m here after.” “Here’s a song about drinking and driving, it’s called ‘drinking and driving'”. All the songs are memorable and smashing awesome. This album is in my top ten of some list. This came with a folded SST records catalog, which I always love to look at.

Black and White – Rainbow Bar and Girls 12″ Single

Black and White – Rainbow Bar and Girls 12″ Single

There are a lot of myths about this record. When it came out it was said that Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Axl Rose and Slash came into a studio with members of the LA gangs the Bloods and Crypts and recorded this song. Others say that it is actually Lizzie Grey of London that wrote and recorded the song and promoted it with those ‘Special’ guests singing. Atlantic supposedly pulled the plug when they found out of the scam Lizzie had pulled. Only the players know the real story. Read the liner note story. The credits list “mystery studio and someone’s garage” as the studios. I always liked to believe the Axl and Vince version of the story but I doubt it’s true but fun to believe.

Dead Boys – Young, Loud and Snotty LP

Dead Boys – Young, Loud and Snotty LP

Classic punk from Stiv and the band. The band manager, Hilly Krystal got Genya Ravan to produce the record to the delight of Stiv though the rest of the band couldn’t understand this. Ended up being a classic punk record.

My favorites are I Need Lunch and Hey little girl.

L7 – Hungry for Stink – Blue Vinyl

L7 – Hungry for Stink – Blue Vinyl

Lone of our favorite records to drink to. Heavy grungy guitars. Play it loud. Fuel my fire and Shirley are my favorites. Shirley, is about Shirley Muldowney the only words being “Cha Cha” herself sampled in answering the question “what’s a beautiful girl like you doing in a place like this? ” with Shirley answering…”Winning” over and over under heavy guitars.

Turbonergo – Scandinavian Leather LP

Turbonergo – Scandinavian Leather LP

I don’t know a lot about these guys. A lot of releases. I think we bought this for the song FTW but it could be cause of the cool cover. ‘Ive had that cover image as my Microsoft avatar since the record came out. Lead singer Hank is a freaky lookin dude.

Aerosmith – Rocks LP

Aerosmith – Rocks LP

My favorite Aerosmith record and in my top ten all time great list. Great from first song to last. Perry later said he was high as hell on heroin when he write Back in the Saddle that the riff ‘floated through him’.

As the cover of this copy may indicate, this is an original ’76 pressing of the record. Love the inner sleeve painting of the band.

Die Hunns – Long Legs Limited Edition Picture Disc

Die Hunns – Long Legs Limited Edition Picture Disc

This was the first Hunns record to feature Corey Parks on bass and vocals. This is one of my favorite records of all time. The cover of “Time has come today” is great. I’m talking really great. Duane and Corey share the vocals and they are incredible. Her high voice with Duane’s signature growl make it a classic. Two other cover songs, some Hunns classics and a few new tunes make up the rest.

The vinyl version has 3 bonus tracks not on the cd. This picture disc is a limited edition number 148 of 666 made. How Rock and Roll is that? Great heavy slab with great graphics. Those guys at “I used to fuck people like you in prison” records in Germany know quality.
