Sid Vicious – Love Kills NYC LP

Sid Vicious – Love Kills NYC LP

Pressed in Belgium, this lp contains the songs Sid did on his own after the Pistols imploded. Most of these tracks are from Max’s Kansas City where Sid played several gigs before overdosing.

Not sure if this was actually released as a sort of casting call for the movie but it likely is just another bootleg capitalizing on the ‘Sid moment’ at the time.

Rollins Band – Life Time LP

Rollins Band – Life Time LP

Great Sunday morning. Coffee and cigarettes and Henry Rollins just go together.

Henry Rollins first solo album after leaving Black Flag. This is an intense record. It was produced by Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat fame and Dischord records. Him and Henry were childhood friends as well. The cd contained some live songs and it was reissued with a few variations of tracks but this is n original Texas Hotel press on cheap vinyl. The cover has a flimsy feel to it too. The music was recorded in the UK in ’87 and released the same year.

You want to hear some INTENSITY? Check out the tune “Gun in mouth blues”. A hard listen that after hearing you will find you are grinding your teeth (insert your nervous habit here) and exclaiming to yourself or outloud how fucked up/good that was.

The Faith Healers – Camera Psyche Soul Head – Orange Vinyl

The Faith Healers – Camera Psyche Soul Head – Orange Vinyl

The Faith Healers are partially responsible for changing my entire world of music appreciation. Original, loud, fun, punk, rock and roll at its purest form. You can read more about our meeting and time here.

This orange slab of vinyl was and is a prized piece of my library. While I lost my original copy, luckily I found a fan out there probably as much of a fanatic as myself who was kind enough to send me this copy a few years ago. Thanks Phillip.

All six tracks were live staples and one song, “Black Elks Bones” made in onto a CMJ new artists issue and disc. (I’m pretty sure this is the song but I could be mistaken). My favorite song is Batman/Jesus. Such a great strange and trippy song full of power.

Wade Ogle, lead singer and guitar is still releasing music and owns a record store in Fayetteville. He recently added some classic Faith Healers and Dali Automatic songs to his Bandcamp page. I’m not sure what Brian (bass) or Paul (drums) are up to. After the Faith Healers, they formed Dali Automatic and added Dave on guitar. As a 3 piece they were amazing but with the addition of Dave they were full on fucking amazing. Great memories of going to their shows, attending practice, hanging out, getting into mischief and life long friendships.

I have recently reconnected with Dave, the amazing, blazin’ guitar player and hope he will add some of his thoughts and memories to this. Some of my recollections are probably a little off too and perhaps he can help straighten those out. Dave was the Faith Healers roadie and then became the guitar player for Dali Automatic……right?

Richie Stotts – Richie Stotts limited edition 100 copies LP

Richie Stotts – Richie Stotts limited edition 100 copies LP – Hand signed – Spattered paint cover

Now we’re talkin’ some really cool awesome obscure shit! This is limited to 100 copies, all individually hand signed and hand splattered painted covers. This is probably the only one of a kind record I own. Truly only one copy like this one. After signing each cover, slapping a back sticker on the back of the cover, Richie went to the roof of his apartment and spattered each cover with red paint. 100 copies of this lp exist and each one is unique and different. I bought this directly from Richie in 2002 via his website. It contains songs Richie had on cassettes he had recorded but never released that had been in a box in his apartment. The rest of the songs are from his band King Flux, the group he formed right after the Plasmatics. Richie is an amazing guitar player and his 6’7″ frame with his Mohawk proved to be a crowd pleaser in live shows. He is known for his Flying V guitar, blue Mohawk, nurses uniform and wild style of guitar. King Flux has two of Tommy Hilfiger’s brothers and Marky Ramone on drums.

In that box of tapes also laid the song “Rock and Roll is the answer”, written by Richie and Joey Ramone! He later re-recorded the song with Joeys brother basically creating a new song around Joeys vocals.

I love this record because it is very special. Very personal and something you won’t find in any record bin at even the best rare record stores or even online. Cool cover of “C’mon Everybody” by Eddie Cochran.

The Cherry Bombz – Coming Down Slow LP

The Cherry Bombz – Coming Down Slow LP

I love the obscure cool shit most of all. First there was a Finnish punk band called Pelle Miljoona Oy with Andy McCoy on guitar and Sam Yaffa on guitar also. Andy began talks with Michael Monroe and the two formed Hanoi Rocks. Hanoi Rocks will be seen here on Perfectenschlag soon with many releases. After Hanoi Rocks broke up, Andy took the remaining band and formed Cherry Bombz with Anita Chellemah on vocals. Anita had been in an all girl pop outfit Toto Coelo, a British group who were a one hit wonder band put together by producer Barry Blue who also worked with Banannarama and also wrote songs for Diana Ross and Celine Dion. The Cherry Bombz were considered the ‘new’ Hanoi Rocks by many.

This Cherry Bombz release was recorded live at the Marquee club in 1986. It is the French version on High Dragon Records. They never released a full length record but had many recorded and released songs. The did a good cover of “Hot girls in love” by Loverboy.

Andy is a very interesting guy. He played with Iggy Pop on tour in 1989. He was the first Finish artis with a gold record when Samantha Fox covered his tune “The Best is yet to come”. He has written two books, had a documentary made about his life, played with the U.K. Subs on an album, he is an avid and successful painter and was a member of Bam Magera’s band. Bam has a tattoo of Andy on his arm.

ZZ Top – Tres Hombres

A snowy morning in my world. Not much on the ground but it’s very windy and cold. Great day for some Zz Top.

This one was put out in 1973. This copy is all original and in pretty good shape. Sounds amazing. The first two track kind of meld into each other. Apparently the engineer made a mistake when he was cutting the tape and it caused there to be no gap between the songs. The inner photo is of a couple of plates from “Leo’s Mexican joint now closed. Great music and feel on this classic lp.

Aerosmith – Live Bootleg Double Live Album

Aerosmith – Live Bootleg LP

I love a rainy Friday afternoon, hanging out with my honey, looking at records and eating chili.

This is an original 78′ release of this double live gatefold sleeve album. The band didn’t want to put out a live album like its peers at the time which was basically a bands songs, with audience noise dubbed in, lots of filters to clean up the sound to make the live sound clearer. They did it their way by mis labeling the track list, like many true bootlegs got the track listing wrong. They used songs from a couple of different concerts at the time and two cover songs recorded at a live radio broadcast. The album also features a secret live instrumental cover of “Strangers in the Night” following their cover of “Train Kept A-Rollin'”.  Great classic Aerosmith at their best.

The Runaways – Live in Japan LP

The Runaways – Live in Japan LP

I slept later than usual today which caused me to wake up with a sore back/stomach. Trying to work it out. Great post today I picked out last night is helping me get my mind off my back and onto something fun. This is a fun post.

The great thing about a cool record is sometimes the record package can be as important as the actual music on the disc. The Runaways had some good songs for sure but this record is really about the package.

Released in Japan in ’77 this live record is a treat for your ears and eyes. Great packaging with, lyric book in English and Japanese, five individual 12×12 color glossy head shots of each band member, a hand written thank you page by each band member, double gatefold jacket that open vertically for a full body shot of the band, and inner foldout with live shots of the band. My copy was released in Canada in ’77. Great songs too.

Dudes – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album Cassette

Dudes – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album – Cassette

Yesterday evening I got really frustrated and mad. I don’t want to feel this way ever again, It makes me feel sick and terrible and hurts the person I love most in the world. Not good. In my anger I walked into the shed and slammed the door and in doing so made a few cassettes I had on a shelf fall off. One that fell was this tape “Dudes” the soundtrack to an obscure movie from 1987. I had the cassette case on the shelf but for some time have been unable to find the actual tape. There on the floor laid the tape. Where did it come from? Did my anger make it come out of hiding? Was this some kind of sign telling me to cool it? I had searched diligently for the tape and given up on more than one occasion. Why are you making yourself found now, at this moment? It was probably sitting right in front of my eyes all this time but I say this has meaning, stop getting angry. Cancer sucks and fucks your brain thinking. I gotta get my brain right. On the surface I think I have it right. Now I gotta get my gut brain right. I have fucking cancer. Maybe this tape is what I need to hear right now. Each day I try to find a cd or record to hear to make my brain feel good. This is it. This is my cancer tape. Lol. Ok enough about that, this is a cool fucking tape!

First off there is an awesome cover of “Rock and Roll Outlaw by Keel. Keel was awesome. Then there is one of our favorites, “Urban Struggle” by the Vandals, which is likely the first time I discovered this song was on this soundtrack, later to be on about every mix cd I made for a while. ‘I want to be a cowboy!, Sometimes I think I’m Clint Eastwood!…..’,great words and song. Then WASP does their classic “Show no Mercy”, awesome shit by Blackie Lawless. Next up is Simon Steele & the Claw doing “Vengeance is mine”, what a cool band name and cool song!. It keeps getting better with Megadeth doing a blistering cover of “These boots are made for Walkin”. Lesser known Legal Weapon and The Leather Nun are up next with songs that are not fillers but cool and fit it perfectly.  Next is Janes Addition with the best version of Mountain Song you will hear on any record. The Little Kings and Charles Berstein are next with the latter doing “Dudes Showdown. Steve Vai end this awesome ride of alt and metal gems with “Amazing Grace”.

Wow, I m grateful I found this tape and plan to hear it today loud and proud. I am not getting angry anymore. I will talk out my frustrations if I have any. I want to be happy! I want to have fun! I want to immerse myself in all this awesome music and music stuff we have and just love it the way I have loved gathering, saving, collecting and sorting it all along the way of life. Now, it’s time to enjoy it all.

80’s Punk Rock Morning

listening to an 80’s punk rock internet radio station this morning on the new receiver. Nice. Got up this morning feeling almost excited to weigh in sure that I was going to see a pound more but instead lost a half pound. Downer. But, I am not gonna give up. I ate toast, cereal, and some oj. Will make myself drink a shake in a few. Feeling good. Cold as hell outside. Some work to do this morning, gotta get the mini figured out (battery), food for tonight, and hopefully some fun. 80’s punk is my favorite. Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Blondie, Suicidal Tendancies, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, it’s all good.
